Time to swap fixed workstations for virtual desktops

Everyone working in the AEC industry will know what we mean by workstations: fixed, on-site computers designed to run demanding software and programmes such as CAD and data modelling. They have been the traditional IT set up for organisations for years.

However, we’ve been working hard to change that and show why virtual desktop infrastructure (and for the purpose of this blog, specifically our Inevidesk solution) offers a better way of working.

Our vdesks can be situated on your premises – or – and in our opinion the better, more resilient option – off-site in our secure data centre. And when it comes to the benefits Inevidesk can bring to your firm, there are several.

Here’s a recap about why our virtual desktops win hands down over fixed workstations:

  • Delivers high-performance: You can work on compute-heavy, industry-specific software such as Autodesk, Procore and Bentley, even over low bandwidth connections, with the same high-level performance you’d experience working on office-based workstations

  • Work your way: Employees can work from anywhere with an internet connection; supporting home working, satellite offices, international workers and more, whilst keeping all your infrastructure centralised for both security and ease of management

  • Frees up space to reconfigure the office: When VDI is hosted off-site, you can claim back office space currently occupied by physical workstations and servers and put it to better use. Many of our customers have been able to sublet office space as a new source of revenue

  • A more secure way of working: We give firms much more control over who has access to their data. Simple, intuitive controls ensure Directors and IT managers can rapidly reassign or disable vdesks when necessary

  • Enhances resiliency: Since physical workstations are located in the office, they can be susceptible to damage and downtime. We create a path to hosted cloud services with increased levels of business resiliency including redundant power, connectivity and high-end environmental management and physical security

  • Relieves the burden on IT: VDI can cost about the same as what you have been paying for fixed workstations and servers, but the added value comes from its ability to  relieve the need to maintain, fix and upgrade these systems. Inevidesk eases the burden on IT teams. Software is simply installed onto a template via the Inevidesk administration portal, then cloned to create vdesks, taking around two minutes per vdesk

If you’d like to talk to us about how you can move from fixed workstations to Inevidesk, we’d love to speak to you and even get you on a trial of our vdesks. Get in touch: https://www.inevidesk.uk/contact
