We are excited to announce that Flanagan Lawrence Architects has partnered with Inevidesk to implement a new virtual desktop strategy for its business.

David Lawrence, Director, says: “Our plan to streamline our technical infrastructure and move towards a cloud-based platform has been brought forward during a period when the advantages of having a flexible operating system have never been more apparent. The pressures brought by Covid-19 have reinforced the advantages of our approach which is designed with the well being of our staff very much at the forefront of our approach whilst allowing us to remain effective, resilient and able to deliver the level of the service which we want to and which our clients have come to expect. As we move towards the end of a building lease, we recognised the benefits that such a system could deliver to the business by affording  us greater flexibility in terms of our use of office space and the easy adoption of satellite offices and remote workers onto a system which remains centralised and secure. To this end, we had been closely following the development of Inevidesk, and it has emerged  at exactly the right time.”

Flanagan Lawrence had considered other virtual desktop platforms in the past but discovered too many hurdles to implementation, from cost and performance, to wider strategic thinking. According to David, “We were drawn to Inevidesk because it has been developed by a team which has an in-depth understanding of our industry and we have been able to work with them to tailor a platform which addresses the everyday requirements of our staff. This last element is really critical: the technology has been created to support how we want to work, opening up possibilities rather than forcing us down a particular road because of financial, logistical or technological constraints.”

Trialling the service has been eye opening for Flanagan Lawrence during the pandemic. One employee, for example, had been struggling to work remotely with traditional remote desktop technology owing to a poor internet connection. With Inevidesk, they were able to work much more efficiently on Revit and Rhino models using just a basic laptop. This is because the service has been refined to support not only industry specific software, but also a potential range of bandwidth environments.

“We plan to migrate our team entirely to a virtual infrastructure within 12 months, so that we have total flexibility in how we work. This will help to inform the strategic decisions we will make concerning future workplace requirements.  We are now well placed to meet the challenges which will emerge over the next period with confidence. It is an exciting period of development for the Practice. ”, added David.

Tim Whiteley, co-founder of Inevitech (developers of Inevidesk) said, “Technology needs to support operational and strategic goals: it can never be an end in itself. We put a lot of time into considering just how people need to work, or might want to work in the future, and so we’re thrilled to find that our thinking is mirrored by Flanagan Lawrence and its progressive strategy. We’re excited to see just how Inevidesk can help the firm achieve its goals”.
