A re-statement of intent
Coming up to five years since we launched our virtual desktop solution, we are still fighting the same fight: that of democratizing good technology. Long frustrated by the inability of big tech to deliver a service that was accessible by our industry (AEC), we developed our own.
Open source technology forms the basis of Inevidesk. No VMWare. No Citrix. No Azure or other hyperscaler. This is a matter of principle. Big tech could not provide an appropriate VDI solution for our client base back in the day and five years on nothing has changed, except perhaps things have gotten worse.
VMWare as we knew it is gone, leaving in its wake a mess of confusion, costs and concern.
Citrix remains costly, complex and focused on large scale enterprise.
Azure may work for low end compute requirements, but anything demanding attracts large costs, increased complexity and - from all organisations we have spoken with - inadequate performance.
Poor experiences or frightening cost proposals still leave many companies with a sour view of VDI, especially those who rely on powerful GPU tech or have large data requirements. Inevidesk was created to challenge that situation and enable organisations of all sizes, especially those with demanding graphical workloads, to properly reap the benefits of VDI. Benefits which are all the more significant in these rapidly changing times: flexibility, resiliency, performance and location agnostic.
It has been gratifying to see that our efforts are being increasingly recognised, with Inevidesk in use with and trusted by such esteemed names as Grimshaw, Hopkins Architects, Morris+Company and many more. As our clients also include many small to medium sized organisations, we can honestly claim that Inevidesk is accessible to all (even more so since someone can now start with just one hosted Flexidesk). The interest of MSPs and other service providers in our new channel partnership programme will hopefully allow ever more organisations and use cases to improve their technical operations.
Those organisations that make the step into VDI also recognise the environmental benefits, with one of our vdesks generating 62% less carbon than a similarly specified physical workstation and taking up a lot less space and power than small form rackmount workstations. Whilst sustainability goals are dropping like flies around the globe, we know that many organisations still believe in the importance of reducing their emissions: something we believe is both practical and ethical.
So, as we face up to the next five years, with an ever strengthening raft of established clients at our back, a competitive market that is frankly failing on multiple critical levels and a world heating up in terms of both climate, political rhetoric and economic uncertainty, we feel that our mission is ever more important and timely.
